Asari Dokubo is a prominent Nigerian activist and former militant leader in the Niger Delta region. He was born on September 1, 1964, in Abonnema, Rivers State, Nigeria. Dokubo gained notoriety as the founder and leader of the Niger Delta People's Volunteer Force Asari(NDPVF), a militant group that fought for the rights and control of resources in the Niger Delta.
Dokubo's activism primarily focused on addressing the economic and environmental challenges faced by the people of the Niger Delta region. He criticized the Nigerian government for the exploitation of oil resources in the area without adequately compensating the local communities or addressing their socio-economic needs.
In 2005, Asari Dokubo was arrested and charged with treason by the Nigerian government. He spent about two years in detention but was eventually released in 2007 following a peace deal between the government and militants in the Niger Delta.
After his release, Dokubo continued to be involved in activism and politics. He formed the Niger Delta People's Salvation Front (NDPSF) and later established the Biafra National Council (BNC), advocating for the independence of the Biafra region in southeastern Nigeria.
It's important to note that information on Asari Dokubo's activities may have evolved or changed since my last knowledge update in September 2021. For the most up-to-date information, I recommend referring to recent news sources.
